Sound Cloud is re -updating its terms of use after annoying users around the AI, which the company still describes as “very broad”. Details of this change were shared in an open letter from Sound Cloud CEO Elias Sitten, which confirms the company’s commitment to the artists.
In particular, the terms of the use of sound clouds now prohibit the company from using the content uploaded in the generative cloud to train the Generative AI that transmits an artist without his consent. As it is described in the new terms, the sound cloud is developing in the next few weeks:
We will not use your content to train Generative AI models, which aims to create or synthesize your voice, music, or imitation without your clear consent, which should be provided with affirmation through the Opt in these mechanisms.
Setten also reiterated that the sound cloud has never used “artist content” for AI training. Setten writes, “Not for the creation of music. Not for big language models. Not for anything that tries to imitate or change your work.”
The dispute with the Sound Cloud approach with AI began when consumers saw that the company updated its terms of use in February 2024 to allow the sound cloud “artificial intelligence or machine intelligence technologies or services as a part of and use artificial intelligence to use artificial intelligence or technology.”
Sound Cloud claims that it will only use the artist’s content to train AI music discovery tools. The company gained Musiio in 2022, keeping in mind the same idea. Nevertheless, it is understandable that sound cloud users will be sensitive to any changes related to AI. Like most of the online storage of online, AI companies have screened music without the consent of artists and is open enough.
