Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 will receive updates after a decrease in support of the old version of their desktop operating system. Tech Dev, based in Redmund, has recently updated its support page to announce that Microsoft 365 apps (also known as Office Apps) will continue to obtain a security update on Windows 10 by 2028. The company has turned on its previous decision to quit support for these applications for these apps after October 14. (AI) Features are only available on the latest version of Windows.
Microsoft has decided to keep updating Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10
In its latest support article, Tech Dev now says, “Microsoft will continue to provide security update for Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 on Windows 10 on Windows 10, which will continue to provide security updates for Microsoft 365 apps.” These will be available through the company’s standard update channels, and will end on October 10, 2028. The company said the extension was provided to help maintain security while consumers transfer to Windows 11.
Even if users do not upgrade to Windows 11 after cooperation is over, they will be able to use office apps. However, as Microsoft notes in the document, performance and reliability issues can arise using the unauthorized operating system. In addition, without security refreshments, these systems are also at risk of malware, viruses and hacking efforts.
Microsoft is aggressively pressing Windows 10 users to upgrade the latest generation. In 2025, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Tech Dev declared the year “Year of Windows 11 PC Refresh”. The pushing is understandable, because the company is investing a lot in Co -Pelot+ PC, which is equipped with a range of AI properties.
The company has also created subscription tires for both businesses and individuals to access these AI features. However, Microsoft will not be able to completely monitor its offerings unless the entire user can access these features.
But the marketing push will not be enough. According to Verge, Microsoft has very strict hardware requirements for Windows 11, unable to upgrade millions of computers to the latest operating system. If they buy new PCs, these users can switch to Windows 11.
